This is a part-time Automotive Instructor faculty pool for available assignments during the academic year. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Instructs students in a classroom and lab. Provides student contact before and after class and by telephone, video conferencing, scheduling meetings or email exchanges during office hours where facilities and schedules permit.
  • Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, include course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate; incorporates the latest classroom technology when available and appropriate to instructional activities.
  • Structures classes and curriculum to correspond with the overall program objectives; prepares clear objectives for students for each course.
  • Understands, develops and provides a learning environment that supports diversity and incorporates sensitivity to diversity within the college community.
  • Responsible for classroom and departmental equipment and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate.
  • Understands and abides by college policies and regulations and other policies, procedures and materials as required by the college, departments or divisions.
  • Convenes classes on time and as scheduled.
  • Maintains evaluation and grading records for assigned students; enters grades and provides all necessary documentation for incompletes within established college timelines and guidelines.
  • Ensures and emphasizes safe working and classroom conditions and practices.
  • To develop, deliver, and assess curriculum materials in accordance to the course outline of the specific class taught.
  • To practice positive classroom management, and promote a safe, professional working environment in the lab.
  • May direct aides and work study students as assigned.
  • Assist with design and upgrade of curriculum in accordance with NATEF standards.
  • Assist with advising the department on program equipment and technology needs.
  • Interact with department advisory committee in promoting the advancement of students into automotive careers.
  • Help develop partnerships and alliances with potential donor repair shops and dealerships.
  • Attend college/department meetings and in-service functions as necessary.
  • To carry out all functions as a faculty member as outlined in the contract.


AUXILIARY FUNCTIONS:
  • May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.


Qualifications





MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, plus a minimum of 5 years verified history of employment within the automotive trade, or any satisfactory combination of training and experience as an automotive mechanic which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions.

  • Must hold current ASE certification in:
    G1-Maintenance and Light Repair
    A-6 Electrical/Electronic Systems

  • Must hold current ASE Certification in all automotive subject area(s) taught.

  • Engine Performance Instructors must hold current ASE Certification in Advanced Engine Performance L-1.

  • Ability to develop instructional materials, curriculum, lab activities, and assessment instruments.

  • Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College's culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS/LICENSES:
Valid Driver's License acceptable in the State of Oregon.



DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current experience
  • ASE Master Tech
  • ASE Advanced Engine Performance L-1 and/or Engine Machinist
  • A.A.S. Degree in Automotive Technology

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility, including the use of step stools in order to retrieve archived materials. Duties may involve moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis such as papers, files, boxes, equipment, computers, etc., and rarely requires moving materials weighing over 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, monitor, projector, calculator, printer, and standard office equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working in shop areas with exposure to various automotive fumes and fluids. Both classroom and shop conditions, some noise, smells, and obstruction hazards and requiring continuous use of personal protective equipment, i.e., safety glasses, gloves, skin protection, and hearing protection.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers. When a lab tech has been assigned to aid in lab sessions, then the responsibility would be to determine how to best use the help in setting up/running demonstrations, aiding students with projects, controlling the lab to promote a safe working environment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the general direction of the Department Chair.
